Stand with 200+ Environmental Groups Calling to Halt New AI Datacenters Across US
The Issue
More than 230 environmental organizations — including Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth, and Food & Water Watch — have issued an urgent call: pause all new datacenter development in the U.S. until real regulations are in place.
They’re not alone. Communities across the country are feeling the impact of energy-hungry artificial intelligence (AI) and crypto datacenters: soaring electricity bills, strained water resources, and worsening climate pollution.
And now, everyday Americans — across party lines — are demanding answers.
Datacenters are quietly consuming massive amounts of energy and water to power the AI boom, and most of us never agreed to pay the price.
In fact, electricity bills have jumped 13% under the current administration, and nearly 80 million Americans are now struggling to keep the lights on.
If left unchecked, datacenters could add up to 44 million tons of carbon emissions by 2030, the same as adding 10 million cars to the road — all while consuming enough electricity to power nearly 190 million homes.
That’s why environmental leaders are asking Congress for a national moratorium on new datacenters — until we have enforceable rules that protect our power grid, our climate, and our wallets.
We stand with them.
Sign this petition to demand that Congress immediately halt the unchecked growth of AI datacenters and ensure new regulations are in place before any more are approved.
This is about climate justice, affordability, and defending communities from corporate overreach — before it’s too late.
