The brutal beating of Tyron McAlpin by Phoenix police officers was a horrifying injustice.

It cannot be swept aside with a mere 24-hour unpaid suspension.

McAlpin, a deaf man with cerebral palsy, was wrongfully arrested and subjected to extreme violence—punched, tased, and brutalized—despite having done nothing wrong. His charges were rightfully dismissed, but the officers responsible are facing little more than a slap on the wrist.

This is not accountability.

This is not justice.

The fact that officers immediately resorted to violence without investigating the situation speaks to a culture of reckless force that must change. Additional training for some of the officers is not enough—every officer involved must be retrained, and the ones who used excessive force must be held to a higher standard of discipline.

The Phoenix Police Department claims to prioritize community trust and safety. It's time for them to prove it.

We demand a full review of the officers’ conduct, meaningful disciplinary action, and mandatory department-wide training to prevent this from ever happening again. Tyron McAlpin deserves justice. Our community deserves better!
