Stand Up for the Forgotten Movie/TV Workers Impacted by WGA and SAG-AFTRA Strikes!
The Issue
As a concerned member of the film industry, I am deeply troubled by the devastating impact that the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes have had on countless movie/TV workers. It is disheartening to witness how this crucial issue has been overshadowed, leaving many studio employees, including caterers, crew members, studio lot employees, security guards, and others in dire straits.
I write this petition not as a representative of any particular group or organization but as an individual whose life has been upended by these strikes. My wife and I used to run a Cafe on a studio lot - our livelihood depended on the bustling activity within the film industry. However, due to the lack of revenue caused by these strikes, our Cafe was forced to close its doors indefinitely. Consequently, we find ourselves unemployed with an uncertain future ahead.
Our story is just one among many heartbreaking tales echoing throughout studios across our nation. Countless friends and colleagues who once thrived in their respective roles have also fallen victim to this economic turmoil. The longer these strikes persist without gaining sufficient attention or resolution from relevant parties involved, more individuals are left jobless and struggling.
It is crucial that we raise awareness about the collateral damage inflicted upon movie/TV workers beyond just writers and actors. The ripple effect of these strikes extends far beyond those directly involved in negotiations; it affects hardworking individuals who contribute their skills behind-the-scenes to bring our favorite movies to life.
To shed light on this pressing issue and demand action from key stakeholders such as WGA (Writers Guild of America) and SAG-AFTRA (Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television & Radio Artists), I urge you all to sign this petition:
By signing this petition:
1) We call upon WGA and SAG-AFTRA to prioritize the needs of all movie/TV workers affected by the strikes, including caterers, crew members, studio lot employees, security guards, and others who have lost their jobs.
2) We demand that media outlets and industry influencers amplify the voices of these forgotten workers by shedding light on their struggles and advocating for their rights.
3) We implore studios and production companies to explore alternative solutions that minimize the negative impact on non-writers and non-actors while negotiations continue.
4) We urge government officials to recognize the economic hardship faced by movie/film workers due to these strikes and provide necessary support or relief measures during this challenging time.
Together, let us stand up for those who have been overlooked amidst this ongoing battle. Let us remind everyone that our industry thrives not only because of talented writers and actors but also because of dedicated individuals working tirelessly behind-the-scenes. Sign this petition today to ensure that no worker is left behind in our pursuit for a fair resolution!
