On Saturday the 2nd of July, 30-35 people made the effort to meet up at Federation Square and take a Stand Against Live Animal Exports.
To the people who made the effort THANK YOU, you have helped the petition obtain over 600 signatures since Saturday. It is very hard to gauge on the day how well it went but seeing the petition grown substantially is testament that Awareness Days work.
After this trip though, I’m not too sure I will be travelling long distances to do Awareness Days again. I cannot afford it financially or physically.
We drove 826 kilometres to get to Melbourne and it cost us around $1100 for accommodation and fuel, so it works out rather expensive especially when I’m only working casual hours.
Our trip home - 863 kilometres, took 12 hours due to extreme flooding in NSW - that was 12 hours cramped in a ute. My car does not fit all the Stand Against Live Animal Exports gear and another person, so the ute it was.
We can honestly sympathise with the animals crammed onto these trucks and ships, we spoke about how we felt and how we could stop anytime and have a walk around but the animals can’t, we saw a few animal transportation trucks which made us stop whinging about our discomfort and pain for a short while. We were both in a lot of pain at arrival points though.
On Monday before we left for Melbourne my husband collapsed and had to be taken by ambulance to the emergency department, he spent the night in hospital, 2 days later at 5am in the morning we set off for Melbourne, we could not let the animals down.
I have another Awareness Day in Sydney on the 20th of August and I will do a picket line at the lodge in Canberra around October, but after that I will have to see if I can afford to continue doing Awareness Days.
PLEASE keep on fighting for these animals though, just because Anthony Albanese said he would end Live Animal Export, doesn’t mean we can relax, we all know the farmers have a hold over these politicians.
The Agriculture Ministers email address is senator.watt@aph.gov.au.
If you can start sharing the August Awareness Day details, we need more people to help these animals..x
