The ordinance passed today, July 1st by the St. Lucie Commissioners Board was not good enough for my supporters nor myself. We need to have the general public's interest included in the mask mandate as well. Just having employees wear masks will not help the daily rising Covid-19 infection rate, hospitalization rate or death rate. We ALL need to do our part to make this effective!

If that means fines, so be it! You said you believe people want to do the right thing? Did you listen to any of them at the meeting? I have been getting the same negative backlash in droves for quite a while. I’ve worked diligently & tirelessly trying to get this message out there on so many social media platforms, sending emails to every Commissioner on the board as well as local news media outlets. I had to endure a lot of hate! For you not to even mention my petition at today's meeting was an insult to me and my 4,328 supporters as I was a voice for every one of those people in our community.

What a shame Cathy Townsend put politics before the health of St. Lucie County's citizens, especially because this is not a political pandemic. Please let our Board of County Commissioners know that "strongly recommending" people wearing masks in public is NOT ENOUGH! As Commissioner Mitchell pointed out  "We've already been doing that for months and look where that got us, we're worse off than where we started".
