Santa Rosa Junior College has five campuses that have educated hundreds of thousands of students over the last 100 years. Yet, they have never demonstrated enough respect for the people who took care of these lands for thousands of years. No financial compensation has ever been offered for the use of the land to local Indigenous peoples. The number of Indigenous students at SRJC is not representative of the community at large and changes must take place.

SRJC must go beyond land acknowledgement and do the following:

* From now on, all new buildings at SRJC should be named after Native Indigenous local leaders as determined by the leadership of their nations.

* SRJC must provide free tuition and books to all Native Indigenous peoples from local nations in the service area.

* A special endowment should be created for scholarships only for Indigenous Natives in the SRJC service area.

* The Board of Trustees must add Indigenous Peoples Day as a holiday beginning in the school year 2022-2023 to be celebrated on October 12th of each year.

* SRJC must invite representatives from local nations to form an advisory committee on issues relating to local Native students.

It is in the best interest of the college and the community at large to listen to the voices of local Native nations and to support the success of the same.

Santa Rosa Junior College tiene cinco planteles donde han educado cientos de miles de estudiantes en los pasados 100 años. Desafortunadamente, administradorxs nunca han demostrado suficiente respeto hacia la gente que ha cuidado estas tierras por miles de años. Nunca se le ha ofrecido compensación porque el colegio ocupa estas tierras. El numero de estudiantes Indígenas en el colegio no es representativo del numero de personas en la comunidad. 

El colegio y sus administradorxs deben ir mas haya de reconocer que sus planteles están en tierras Indígenas, pero deben hacer lo siguiente:

·       De ahora en adelante, todos los nuevos edificios en SRJC deben ser nombrados con nombres de gente Indígena de estas tierras, determinado por lideres Indígenas de estas comunidades.

·       SRJC tiene que proveer el pago de clases y libros a toda persona Indígena de las comunidades locales.

·       Una cuenta especial debe ser creada con fondos específicamente para que estudiantes Indígenas reciban becas.

·       La mesa directiva de SRJC tiene que crear el día de celebración de Gente Indígena empezando el año escolar 2022-2023 y ser celebrado el 12 de octubre anualmente.

·       SRJC tiene que crear un consejo de representantes de los grupos Indígenas en el área para aprender de las necesidades de estas comunidades.

El colegio y la comunidad en general se beneficiarán si escuchamos a las voces de las comunidades Indígenas para que todxs sobresalgamos.
