Stop Making Yala National Park of Sri Lanka - The Business Centre of Safari Jeep Owners
The Issue
It has been a long standing issue that no one is really taking a step to avoid the serious destruction happening in Yala National Park of Sri Lanka. Right now situation has become very serious due to many reasons. One main concern is indiscipline Safari Jeep Drivers who are racing within the park to get opportunity to their customers to see Leopards,Sloth Bear....other animals which they have given confirmed assurance show these animals during their safari. As a results of the speed these Jeeps continually over run wild animals and worst of all cats like leopards are also being over run in many occasions !!!
Main reasons for all these issues due to no control what so ever by the wildlife authorities. Park Authorities has no limitation for no of jeeps allowed into the Park. For a day 500 - 600 or more Vehicles ( Safari jeeps over 95%) are allowed to go in to the park. Right now this is increasing day by day as even authorities are after money what they generate from tourist. This Park is now famous around the world as a very good Leopard sighting Park n most tourist comes hoping to see a leopard every time. Due to the size of the Park , amount of vehicles in the core area creates a huge traffic situation when ever one leopard or Sloth Bear is sighted. There used to be plenty sighting all kinds of animals at least 10 years ago. All animals were freely enjoying this park in large numbers. But Today finding an animal is become a big task.
Places like in India with Such a large national parks no private Safari Jeeps are no allowed or controlled n very minimal number of vehicles allowed to get into the parks. Parks were divided to many zones and each zone will be allowed only 6 - 10 vehicles n these numbers will only be reduced based on the park/zones. So at any given time even if we count 10 zones with 10 vehicles all together 100 vehicles but in 10 or 20 times bigger area compared to Yala. Some Parks no private vehicles are allowed only wildlife authority run the jeeps n with much much less in number. This way they conserve wild life in much greater way than us in Sri lanka. Tiger Pupulation was declining last decade but right now it is really great to know n started to rise ina much healthy way due to these restriction and government as well as private agencies get together for a one important cause.
So knowing these facts we Sri Lankans have joined hands to fill their individual pockets , make Yala their private business centre destroy our few national parks and specially Yala such an important place for every person live in our belowed country. It is important to take action right now before it is too late n Yala will become a deserted place without any animal. Therefore pls sign this petition as wildlife/ nature lovers to save Yala n let animal also live a life while every one enjoy for long years. Animals in Yala Cannot Speak If they can we all would have seen the true sounds of wild coming out much earlier than this.
