📝 Petition Description
Spotify, please create a fair and transparent access path for indie developers, students, and small teams.

The recent Web API quota policy changes have effectively shut out individual developers and small projects from publicly launching apps or accessing extended quota.

🚫 What’s Happening
Under the current policy:

There is no access to extended quota for new developers
There is no path to publicly launch a small app
There is no indie or individual developer tier
There are no clear alternatives shown in the developer dashboard
The requirement of 250,000+ MAUs excludes anyone who is not already a large company
For many in the community, this feels less like platform protection — and more like a complete shutdown of new innovation.

💡 Why This Matters
Innovation in tech ecosystems has historically come from:

Indie developers
Students
Hobbyists
Research groups
Early-stage startups
Non-commercial experiments
These groups build dashboards, discovery tools, accessibility utilities, analytics projects, educational platforms, and creative experiences.

Under the current model, this pathway is essentially closed.

⚠️ A Growing Concern
Because there is no legitimate access path, some developers report that:

Spotify developer accounts with extended quota are now being sold on black-market channels — often at very high prices.

This is not good for platform security.
It creates incentive for misuse and unauthorized account transfers.

A lack of official access encourages unofficial workarounds.

❓ Questions for Spotify
Is Spotify moving toward a closed, partner-only API model?
Is an indie or hobbyist tier being considered?
Why is there no legitimate path for small public or non-commercial apps?
How does the current policy support innovation?
Right now, the message many developers hear is:

“Unless you’re already big, you’re not welcome.”

✅ Our Request
We respectfully ask Spotify to create an Indie Developer Tier, including:

A capped but reasonable extended quota
A modest MAU limit appropriate for non-commercial projects
A transparent approval process
Strong anti-abuse policies
A small application or maintenance fee if necessary
This would allow innovation, education, and experimentation — while maintaining security and quality standards.

🎯 Call to Action
If you believe independent developers, students, and small creators should have a fair opportunity to innovate on Spotify’s platform:

Sign and share this petition.

Let’s encourage Spotify to build a healthier, more inclusive developer ecosystem.
