This is how the news papers, magazines, news channels, internet, the press and the paparazzi addressed him after his historic win at the 56th World Artistic Roller Skating Championship 2013 where he won the GOLD MEDAL and the World Champion Title for India. In the 56 years of Roller Skating World Championships History Mr. Anup Kumar Yama is the first Indian ever to have won the Gold Medal  for India. Anup Kumar Yama has won more than 100 National Gold Medals,10 Asian Gold Medals and 1 Gold Medal at the World Championship along with many silver and bronze medals and Individual Champions Trophies at Asian and World Championships.

An “ASIAN GAMES” 2010 "double bronze" medalist and winner of International titles like “ THE INTERNATIONAL ROLLER CUP”, he has been recognized as the Indian Prodigy to the world possessing exceptionally unique and classic skating skills. His contribution to the sport "Roller Skating" is praiseworthy as he has introduced to the world novel spins like the HEEL SIT SPIN and the BROKEN SIT SPIN.

Despite this world renowned skater's tremendous and unbelievable achievements and contributions to the sport and the country, the Govt. of India, The Sports Authority of India and The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports have turned a Blind eye to his contributions. 

1) ANUP KUMAR YAMA HAS SHOWN TREMENDOUS EXCELLENCE IN SKATING YEAR AFTER YEAR AT INTERNATIONAL LEVEL PARTICIPATING IN 11 ASIANS CHAMPIONSHIPS AND 11 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS AND HAS ACHIEVED THE WORLD CHAMPION TITLE BY WINNING THE GOLD MEDAL FOR INDIA IN THE YEAR 2013. INSPITE OF ACHIEVING THE WORLD GOLD MEDAL AND TOPPING THE FORMULATED POINTS SYSTEM OF ARJUNA AWARD, HE HAS NOT BEEN CONFERRED THE ARJUNA AWARD. THIS IS THE 5TH TIME HE IS APPLYING FOR THE ARJUNA AWARD.

1) IN THE 26 YEARS OF HIS SKATING CAREER, ANUP KUMAR YAMA HAS NEVER BEEN SPONSORED BY THE GOVERNMENT OR CORPORATES TO ANY OF THE CHAMPIONSHIPS. HE PUTS HIS OWN MONEY FROM HIS POCKETS (WHICH HE EARNS BY TEACHING SKATING TO A LOT OF YOUNG SKATERS IN INDIA) TO ATTEND THE CHAMPIONSHIPS.

2) ANUP KUMAR YAMA HAS NEVER RECEIVED CASH AWARDS (EXCEPT FOR ASIAN GAMES 2010 MEDALS ACHIEVEMENT) FOR WINNING MEDALS AND LAURELS FOR INDIA.

3) ANUP KUMAR YAMA PRACTICES IN A VERY SMALL SIZE SKATING RINK BUILT IN HIS HOUSE WHICH IS "1/10TH" THE SIZE OF THE STANDARD SKATING RINK SIZE AT CHAMPIONSHIPS. THE GOVERNMENT OF INDIA HAS NOT PROVIDED THE BASIC FACILITIES FOR TRAINING AND PRACTICING.

4) ANUP KUMAR YAMA HAS TO BUY HIS OWN KITS AND EQUIPMENTS TO TRAIN AND COMPETE.

5) ANUP KUMAR YAMA HAS NEVER BEEN FUNDED BY THE GOVERNMENT FOR TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT IN THE SPORT ROLLER SKATING.

Despite all the odds Anup Kumar Yama won the 1st ever GOLD medal for India resulting in the National Anthem being played and the tri-colour Flag being raised to an audience of 50 nations.

In the year 2014, The formulators of the Rules and Regulations for winning the Arjuna Award had prepared a chart of "Point System" where a certain number of points were allocated for respective medals at various International Championships. It was clearly stated that 90% weightage is given for the points accumulated by a sportsman and 10% weightage is given to the discretion of the selection committee. The Selection Committee "miscalculated" Anup Kumar Yama's points for which they apologised in an RTI(Right to Information). Inspite of the miscalculation Anup stood with the highest points amongst all the sportsmen from all the sporting disciplines of India, being the most eligible sportsman for the Arjuna Award.

Inspite of excelling in the sport, breaking all the records, creating history, topping the charts of point system formulated by the authorities themselves, "ANUP KUMAR YAMA WAS NOT AWARDED THE ARJUNA AWARD". 

Inspite of such behaviour of the Authorities, Inspite of being discouraged by the fact that his own country failed to recognise his outstanding achievements, Anup Kumar Yama went on to again win 2 Gold Medals and 3 Silver Medals at the Asian Championship and 1 Bronze Medal at the World Championship.

Anup has now again freshly applied for the Arjuna Award this year for the 5th time and needs the support of all the Indians and sports lovers all over the world to win the Arjuna Award and be recognised by India for his outstanding achievements.
