Speak up, Canva! Demand Canva release statement about Palestine
The Issue
Canva is a worldwide design company that has the power to create change around the world for the better. They spoke up for Ukraine, but now they choose to remain silent about the Palestinian Genocide, an ongoing atrocity that needs the attention of the public.
Furthermore, there are claims that Canva has been taking down pro-Palestine posts and tagging personal profile pictures for removal. (See claims below)
Although it claims to be donating money to Palestine, no details have been shared. As a billion-dollar company with a user-base of over 135 million people, it needs to be doing more, especially when their website says “Be a force for good”, “Be a good human”, and “Empower others”.
Canva must:
- Address the claims from this employee,
- Release a statement on their stance in this genocide,
- and stand by their company values.
In their own words, “It’s our world, and our responsibility.”
Let’s hold them to it. Sign this petition, and demand that Canva leadership make a change.
CEO Melanie Perkins, CPO Cameron Adams, COO Cliff Obrecht, CLO Todd Carpenter, CFO Damien Singh, and CMO Zach Kitschke need to know that we care.
Speak up, Canva!
Sources and Background:
The Palestinian-Israeli Conflict:
History:
The Israeli Government was instated by Great Britain in 1920. It was divided into Palestine and Israel in 1947. In 1948, the Israeli Government annexed more Palestinian land, forcing out Palestinian refugees during the Nakba Catastrophe.
Today's Situation:
Currently, the Israeli Government is launching military attacks on the Gaza Strip, densely populated area designated for Palestinians. Over 10,000 Palestinian people are dead in this humanitarian crisis.
Solution:
The first step is a ceasefire. It would pause fighting in the war to allow for humanitarian aid to reach the people affected by the fighting. Sign the petition here. #ceasefireNOW
The more companies and politicians that support a ceasefire, the more pressure there will be on international bodies to facilitate one. This includes Canva.
Other Actions to Take:
- Email comms@canva.com that you are in support of this petition
- Boycott Canva and use other sites until it supports Palestine
- Share this petition with as many people as possible
