Our library is threatened with closure, or being dropped by the Council and run by volunteers.  The community of Swaythling, Bassett and the Flowers Estate needs the library we have - a proper community and neighbourhood library, with professional staff who know us, the users, and have the knowhow to meet our needs and aspirations. We are a diverse community of all ages, backgrounds, ethnicities, cultures and walks of life. 

For four days a week this is the only free, open-access indoor space where anyone can go.  Children especially are safe here, after school and in holidays.  They are encouraged to learn, and stimulated by all the activities that library staff devise and put on. It is a neighbourhood library, where we meet as neighbours, where the children have opportunities they might not have otherwise.

So we urge you, the Council, not to take away our library as we know it, as the staff know us.  We need it.
