I am Mike Harris but in South Carolina I am known as the Shark Tooth Fairy because I SCUBA dive for prehistoric shark teeth and give them to kids. My kids hunts events have become very popular around the world and people come from all over the United States to attend and attract tourism to the great state of South Carolina. In order for me to dive legally in SC I have to have a license that is issued by the South Carolina Institute of Archeology and Anthropology. (SCIAA) The SCIAA does not approve my of kids hunts and refuses to renew my license to collect fossils in SC. In order to maintain a license to collect fossils in SC the SCIAA requires quarterly reports on what has been collected. I have filed all my reports with what is required by the South Carolina Antiquity Act several times and every report has been overly scrutinized and declined. Why would the SCIAA revoke my fossil license? Shark Teeth no longer have any scientific value and all other states recognize this and no longer require them to be reported but fossil dealers that are friends with the SCIAA hate my kids hunts and believe that giving them to kids ruins the value of shark teeth. Since I started the kids hunts I have been harrassed by the SCIAA and the Fossil Dealers. I have had the anchor on my dive boat cut making me swim miles to find the boat. I have also had the tires slashed on my truck the morning of a planned kids shark tooth and fossil hunting event. Please sign my petition asking the State to give me a waver for reporting Shark Teeth only. Artifacts are important to report and I would find it my duty to report artifacts to the SCIAA but Shark Teeth/fossil reports are being used by the SCIAA in a corrupt fashion to shut down The Shark Tooth Fairy Project for kids and that must not happen. The Shark Tooth Fairy Project has also done private special needs kids hunts that has proven to do amazing things for kids with autism and confidence building for kids with other handicaps.
