Repeal SC's Heritage Act - Stop Celebrating the Confederacy

The Issue

South Carolina's Heritage Act of 2000 prohibits the name changing or removal of any local or state monument, marker, memorial, school, or street commemorating certain historical conflicts and milestones -- i.e., the Confederacy and Confederate officers, politicians, units, and individuals -- without a two-thirds vote of each house in the general assembly.

We the undersigned demand repeal of this law by the state legislature so that communities can decide to remove Confederate statues, street names, and memorials. We want to honestly remember the past, tell our state's full story, and stop celebrating and honoring Confederates and defenders and promoters of white supremacy and slavery.
