Do you still believe that the HPCSA should be holding an internal inquiry before it became a criminal case?

It is imperative for the future of medicine and healthcare workers in this country that the internal Hpcsa inquiry continues separately and unabated.

The Hpcsa is the governing body that presides over all healthcare professionals, their role is to protect the public and guide our profession. It investigates all complaints concerning practitioners and is mandated to enforce disciplinary action against those found guilty as judged by their peers.

It holds the key to a neutral scientific peer reviewed enquiry into the claims and evidence put forward by the complainant.

It will additionally answer the questions relating to why did the National prosecuting agency ignore or not wait for this process to be completed.

What has become of the SA Doctors United petition?

The #dropitandwait petition breached the 80 000 supporters mark soon after the announcement of the new high court murder charge. It should be noted that the media reporting and general feeling from the public has neutralised in light of the new charges. There is definitely a move to shy away from making assumptions and a now quest for the truth backed by evidence has emerged.

It is in the public’s interest to answer this case and make sure all the evidence is heard.

It does not matter were the enquiry is held anymore. It just needs to heard now. Every South African citizen, reporter, healthcare worker, patient and lawyer needs answers, evidence and a guide to the legal thought process that lead to a final high court charge of murder.

It will set the bench mark for the future of medical practise, negligence claims and patient expectations, especially should they require future surgical intervention of any kind.
