Murder and fraud accused Professor Peter Beale is heading to the Gauteng High Court in February.

Beale is accused of being responsible for the death of 10-year-old Zayyaan Sayed.
His co-accused was shot dead in September last year.

"The indictment was served today; the charges are murder and fraud. The NPA can amend the charge sheet, so long as the accused has not yet pleaded," spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane told News24.

In the indictment for count 1 of murder, it states that "the accused did unlawfully and intentionally cause the death of a 10-year-old male person, to wit, Zayyaan Sayed".

On count 2 of fraud, the indictment reads in summary that the accused "unlawfully and with the intention to defraud, gave out and misrepresented...the pathology result of a distal esophageal biopsy".

The State's case against Beale was moved to the Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg and it will be called up in that court next month.

Beale briefly appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court on Wednesday morning, where the matter was formally transferred to the Gauteng High Court.

News24 previously reported that he was facing a charge of culpable homicide.

Beale remains out on bail.

The case was postponed to 19 February 2021 for pre-trial proceedings in the high court.
