Attention to all Miami Dade College Staff, Students and Supporters.
The Miami Dade College Board of Trustees announced the slate of candidates for the College President position on Wednesday, October 28. The Board is scheduled to make its final decision on November 17.
The first presidential search ended in a fiasco. The Miami Herald Editorial Board put it best:
"As the process begins again, public scrutiny into the selection process remains high - as it should - a lesson learned from the last time the expensive process was carried out, but then fell apart. That can't happen again. Miami Dade College is a community's gem. It deserves a new leader steeped in academia and administration, not a political bauble."
Although the deadline to apply was October 23, certain members of the Search Committee have reiterated that they may accept applications after the deadline should a highly qualified candidate emerge after the final slate of candidates has been decided. This inconsistent and unwarranted caveat to the final slate of applicants compromises the transparency of the process and is unacceptable.
The MDC presidential search process must be transparent and ethical. It is nothing less than what students, faculty, staff, and our community deserve.
