Bring PlayStation Now to South Africa

The Issue

For those who might not be familiar with the PlayStation Now offering here is some more information:

  • PlayStation Now service here.
  • PlayStation Now games list here, scroll down past the recent additions to see the full list of games. There are a lot.
  • You can play all of those games for USD 9.99 per month, which in South Africa would be ZAR 172.28 (as of late June 2020).

As a PlayStation 4 owner and with the release of the PS5 coming up, especially the digital edition of the new console, I feel that having a service like PlayStation Now in South Africa could greatly affect people's buying decision when it comes to purchasing the new console in our country.

I am also sure that even the current generation console (PS4) owners, who do not plan on buying a PS5 soon, would benefit greatly from this service being available in our country.

According to some online sources, the cited reason for not yet having PlayStation Now in South Africa is due to the fact that we need an average download speed (on fixed broadband) of at least 5 Mbps.

Back in 2014, we did not have this in our country, as can be seen here, even in 2016 this was the cited reason for the service not being available in South Africa yet as seen here.
Things have changed quite a bit since then and we are in 2020 now, with an average fixed broadband download speed of 34.89 Mbps as of May 2020.

I hope my fellow South African PlayStation owners who also feel the need for this service in our country and will join me in supporting this petition.
