Solicit public opinion on voting machines in India

Solicit public opinion on voting machines in India
The Issue
In our democratic nation, the power of the people is their right to vote. However, the introduction of electronic voting machines (EVMs) has sparked controversies across India. Many citizens doubt whether the current government is genuinely elected by the people due to potential issues with EVMs. As a citizen, I am deeply concerned about the integrity of our elections, as it is crucial to uphold transparency and the confidence of the populace in the democratic process.
Since their implementation, several reports have surfaced about EVM malfunctions during elections. Instances where voting machines fail to record votes accurately have been reported, raising the question of their reliability. In 2019, the Election Commission of India confirmed that some EVMs had technical errors. Despite assurances by the authorities, a significant part of the electorate remains skeptical.
In many countries where EVMs were initially introduced, they have now reverted to paper ballots due to similar concerns. Germany's Federal Constitutional Court banned EVMs in 2009, citing that the electronic systems did not comply with the principle of public countability. India's democracy, renowned for its scale and diversity, demands a system that assures credibility and public trust.
Therefore, it is imperative that we do not overlook public opinion on this critical matter. I urge the Election Commission of India to conduct thorough surveys and consultations with the general public regarding the use of EVMs. Only through transparent dialogue and evaluation can we ensure that our electoral process is fair and our government sincerely reflects the will of the people.
