Let's make the Fairfield Ground a safer place for our community!

Hello, my name is Giampiero and I am looking forward to support our local community in Kingston upon Thames by submitting the below proposal to our councillors.

Your support is much appreciated so please make sure you read and sign the petition (and spread the word too!)

Petition to the Council of Kingston upon Thames: Solar-Powered Lighting for Fairfield Recreation Ground

To: The Council of Kingston upon Thames

We, the undersigned residents and users of Fairfield Recreation Ground, respectfully request that the Council install solar-powered lighting in this vital community space. Adding environmentally friendly, cost-effective lighting will enhance safety, support recreation, and increase accessibility for all, including children and families.

Reasons for Our Petition:

Improved Safety and Crime Prevention
Enhanced lighting will deter drug-related activities and other undesirable behaviours that tend to occur in poorly lit areas. Greater visibility will make the recreation ground safer for everyone, especially during early mornings and evenings when parents and guardians may feel uneasy about allowing children to play or walk through the area. A well-lit space encourages family use, offering parents peace of mind about their children’s safety.

Support for Community Well-Being
Fairfield Recreation Ground is a cherished open space for children, families, runners, dog walkers, and residents of all ages who come to enjoy outdoor activity. Lighting will extend the hours in which people can safely use the park, providing mental and physical health benefits across the community and encouraging children to be active outdoors.

Increased Safety for Young Users
A well-lit park is crucial to supporting children’s after-school and evening activities, especially in the winter months when it becomes dark early. Lighting will allow children to play and socialize in a safe environment close to home, fostering a sense of community and giving parents confidence in allowing their kids to enjoy the area.

Environmental Responsibility and Cost Efficiency
We propose that the lighting system be powered by solar panels to align with Kingston’s commitment to environmental sustainability. Solar lighting will reduce energy costs, decrease the park’s carbon footprint, and serve as a model for green initiatives within the community.

By supporting the installation of solar-powered lighting, the Council would be investing in the long-term safety, well-being, and sustainability of the Fairfield Recreation Ground. We believe this project will be widely appreciated and bring meaningful benefits to residents, visitors, and especially young people and families.

We respectfully urge the Council to consider and approve this proposal.

Thank you for your attention and support for our community.

Sincerely,
The Undersigned Residents
