Alliance against physical restraint in psychiatric care (精神科医療の身体拘束を考える会)
Aug 18, 2018

Thank you again for supporting this cause.  There was a brief period last week in which a technical problem caused the petition to be closed.  But it is back up now, so please let people know that they can now sign it.

Some more bad news is that today there was another article about another person who died from pulmonary embolism after being held for 6 days in restraints.  The family is suing the hospital.  Here is the article about it, in Asahi newspaper:

That makes three lawsuits since May of this year against Japanese hospitals that misused restraints.  The cases are bad news, since two resulted in deaths and one resulted in psychological damage.  But the fact that they are suing the hospitals could mean that they will succeed in getting the hospitals to change their procedures.

I also learned about another movie from 2008 that is quasi-biographical, which shows what it is like to be in a Japanese psychiatric hospital:  https://youtu.be/XBs1PMw0sgE
