Let Snapchat users appeal if their account has been wrongfully locked/terminated

The Issue

Nowadays everyone has a social media account. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter etc but from my experience the most popular one was Snapchat. It was a fun app where you can send funny photos and create entertaining stories. It was ideal for staying in touch with friends, especially during a pandemic.

However, some Snapchat individuals don’t always follow the guidelines and end up having their account locked or worse terminated. Unfortunately, this also happens to innocent Snapchatters who follow the rules. Understandably, when this happens these innocent users try and get their accounts back by contacting Snapchat Support where they do anything but support their users. This is a common problem on Snapchat that is frequently discussed on reddit such as Snapchat Discussion (r/snapchatdiscussion) and Snapchat Support (r/snapchatsupport).

For example, if you look at Snapchat Supports’ Twitter account (@snapchatsupport) majority of the comments on their posts is their users asking for help with unlocking their account but instead of helping out their users they respond with the same generic response to anyone that comments for assistance: “Hey! There are a few reasons your account could be locked Learn more here: http://spr.ly/locked Team Snapchat is unable to unlock your account during this time. If you're seeing a generic Login Error message, check out this link: http://spr.ly/login-issues ”. Another example is the generic responses Snapchat users receive when they email Snapchat Support to help them unlock their wrongfully terminated account where they tell you that since your terminated account has broken their terms of service (without explaining to you what you did wrong) that there’s nothing they can do.

Considering, how often this occurs on Snapchat you would expect them to have an appeal process just like every other social media app/site such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Reddit, Tumblr and YouTube. If all of these popular social media apps can help their users when they make a mistake, why can’t Snapchat do the same? Instagram gives you 30 days to appeal before deleting your account, why can’t Snapchat do the same instead of being impulsive and ruthless towards the people who have helped them remain popular and successful over the years?

It’s time to fight for our Snapchat accounts and most importantly, it’s time for Snapchat to step up for their users!
