A few weeks ago, the City of Bakersfield released their draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR) proposing a vision for development around a F Street Station, if selected (note, the Truxtun Station is still the approved HSR station). The city's draft EIR includes three development plans over a 0-10; 10-20; and 20-30 year period. Under the 0-10 Years Plan, development would be focused in the downtown core from Chester Avenue east towards Mill Creek Linear Park. However, beginning with the 10-20 Year (and continuing in the 20-30 year planning horizon), the city is proposing redeveloping San Joaquin Hospital to mixed-use as well as vicinity around Garces Circle. The maps depicting this development can be accessed at: http://www.bakersfieldcity.us/civicax/filebank/blobdload.aspx?BlobID=30579 We would like to encourage you to join us in submitting comments in support of the 0-10 year development strategy concentrating development in the downtown core(between Chester Ave and Mill Creek) and in opposition to the 10-20 and 20-30 year plans, which among other things calls for the redevelopment of one of Central Bakersfield's most important hospitals (and largest downtown employer). Please send a brief email before February 19th to: Cecilia Griego cgriego@bakersfieldcity.us saying that you support the 0-10 Year Development Plan and Oppose the 10-20 and 20-30 Year Development Plans. Together, we can help keep high-density development in the downtown core where it belongs.
