The Issue

We, the undersigned students, parents, teachers, and community members, urge you to reconsider the proposal to phase out AMY Northwest Middle School. AMY Northwest is more than just a building; it is a specialized learning environment that provides a unique and vital experience for middle schoolers—a time of life that is notoriously difficult for many students. By closing this school, you aren't just moving students; you are dismantling a community designed for their specific success. Students at AMY Northwest are whole people, not just numbers and test scores.  We offer a smaller, more intimate setting, allowing teachers to truly know their students, ensuring no one "falls through the cracks" academically or emotionally.   We prioritize social-emotional growth and conflict resolution.  In this building, we learn how to handle disagreements, respect differences, and grow as individuals. You cannot replicate this culture of kindness and personal accountability in a massive, impersonal institution. Closing AMY Northwest would deprive current and future students of a safe, innovative, and supportive bridge to high school. We ask the Board to prioritize student well-being and specialized education, as the future depends on it. Keep our community whole. Keep considering the needs of children.  Keep AMY Northwest Standing.
