Hi,
Thanks again for signing my petition calling on Sky to provide subtitles on their On Demand service.
It’s not just Sky who are ignoring their deaf customers – 80% of all on demand providers in the UK offer no subtitles at all!
A big part of the problem is that, unlike with traditional TV, there’s no legislation telling broadcasters to provide subtitles for ‘on demand’ and ‘catch up’ services.
But there’s an important opportunity to change this, and force them to offer subtitles.
The Government has promised to review legislation about subtitling for ‘on demand’ services in July 2016, if it's clear that no progress is being made.
Please email Ed Vaizey, Minister of State for Culture and the Digital Economy – who is in charge of broadcasting – to tell him to stick to his promise to review legislation.
Email Ed Vaizey now. [Link: http://e-activist.com/ea-action/action?ea.client.id=1783&ea.campaign.id=38715&ea.tracking.id=JamieChange
Thank you very much!
