The Issue

To the West Lancashire Borough Council,

We, the undersigned, are writing to humbly and respectfully request that the incredible achievements of the Skem Menaces Disabled Football Club and its athletes be formally recognised and honoured within their hometown of Skelmersdale.

The Skem Menaces Disabled Football Club was founded in 2009 by Carl and his wife. Since its inception, the club has grown to become the most highly decorated disabled football club in the UK. Their dedicated athletes have achieved unparalleled success in the sport, winning every major honour available.

Beyond national accolades, members of the Skem Menaces have proudly represented their country in international competitions in Switzerland and other nations, bringing immense pride and positive recognition to Skelmersdale.

The club's extraordinary contributions and impact have been widely acknowledged:

They have visited Buckingham Palace and were awarded The Queen's Award for Voluntary Service, the highest honour a voluntary organisation can receive in the UK.
They have been granted the Freedom of the Borough of West Lancashire.
They have been featured numerous times on national television and radio.
They are winners of countless other awards, celebrating their sporting prowess and community spirit.
For many years, Carl, on behalf of the club, has sought a simple yet profound gesture of recognition from the local council: a plaque on one of Skelmersdale's many roundabouts, proudly stating "HOME OF THE SKEM MENACES." This request aims to acknowledge the amazing achievements of each and every athlete of the club, who are truly "SUPERHUMANS" in their dedication and success.

Despite numerous promises and expressions of support for this modest request, nothing has ever materialised. The latest development, an "insulting" proposal that the club would have to sponsor the roundabout at a cost of £2,500, is unacceptable for a club that has given so much to its community and country.

We believe, wholeheartedly, that the Skem Menaces Disabled Football Club and its athletes are more than worthy of this simple recognition. Skelmersdale has always been incredibly supportive of this proud and unique club, and we hope that, once again, the Skelmersdale community and beyond can sign this petition in honor of the ACES.
