We had our meeting with the city on April 1st. The mayor and councilmen were very responsive to the idea of building a new park and also fixing up our current skatepark. When we met with the parks and rec director she gave us a lot of insight as to what’s coming next. First step is have an accessor come and look at the current skatepark. That will determine if it needs a full rebuild or if we can just fix it up. Second there is someone city side who is looking at and seeing if we can fit other skateparks into current city owned parks. Third we need a master plan to present to the city. Just because they like the idea doesn’t mean it’s been approved. This master plan will have to be presented to the city at another meeting later down the line where they will vote on it. The master plan can’t be started until about August. Parks and rec have a couple of other projects that need to be finished first as they are almost complete. Once the master plan is done it’ll be a matter of funding. We’re going to continue pushing the petition and moving forward as a group to get things done. There will also be a skate and bmx jam April 27 at the current las cruces skatepark to help promote the potential new skateparks.
