Singapore Deserves an Impartial Electoral Body

Singapore Deserves an Impartial Electoral Body
The Issue
Dear Prime Minister Lawerence Wong,
Singaporeans are tired of the constant changes in electoral boundaries. I believe that the Elections Department Singapore (ELD) should transition into an independent body. Our Elections Department as it stands, is seen by many Singaporeans as a government-controlled entity, raising concerns over its impartiality and fairness, particularly towards different political parties and the citizens of Singapore.
In a nation that prides itself on progress and transparency, it is crucial to ensure that the electoral process is free from any governmental influence that may sway public perception and advantage certain political entities.
An independent body, composed of neutral individuals from diverse backgrounds and affiliations, can restore faith in our electoral system.
This proposed independent body would be made up of Singaporean citizens, ensuring representation from all walks of life. Such a body should include at least one representative from each of the major political parties to guarantee a breadth of perspectives and fair representation in decision-making processes.
Singapore has always emphasised inclusivity and representation. By taking this step to revamp our electoral authority, we would be aligning with these values while simultaneously reinforcing democratic principles.
This petition aims to initiate a dialogue on creating a truly autonomous elections supervisory body that reflects our society's diverse voices. Such a transformation would not only enhance the transparency of our electoral process but also increase public confidence in the results.
Your support can play a pivotal role in bringing about meaningful reforms. Please sign this petition to advocate for an Elections Department that is accountable, impartial, and representative of Singapore’s entire spectrum. Let's work together to safeguard democracy and fairness in our electoral processes.
