Dear Campaigners,
If you want to submit any comments to Harrow Estates you have until 25th March to info@southwestaltonconsultation.co.uk.
We have been told that the Outline Planning Application will be submitted 'later this year'.
We felt the presentation last week contained graphic misrepresentations which we pointed out to Cratus (pr company) and Harrow Estates' consultants. The Transport representative was unwilling to really get into the weeds of how on earth a signalised junction (Northfield Lane railway arch) could cope with c1500 -1800 cars exiting and entering the site. In the end he implied that answering questions on this subject wasn't the purpose of the consultation! He said they'd used a 2021 Transport Study that we've yet to find. That is just one of the many issues pointed out by people who attended. One long-standing Councillor said it was the worst consultation they had ever been to.
Everyone we spoke to was naturally against this enormous development on the edges of Alton in Chawton Parish and extremely concerned about roads, surgeries, desecration of green space so close to Ancient Woodlands etc.
Thank you to everyone who came and made their points to the assembled consultants and completed their manipulative feedback form. The link to their consultation is here: https://southwestaltonconsultation.co.uk/#our-public-event
Alton Town Council held an Extraordinary Meeting on Thursday 19th March to discuss their response to Harrow Estates Environmental Impact Assessment Scoping Opinion Request (ie is what they submitted OK or do they need to put more in it basically) - their document and the consultee responses are here on the East Hants District Council (EHDC) planning portal

We wait to see what Alton Town Council have said.

The Council for the Protection of Rural England (CPRE) have submitted a 'red' list of sites in the Land Availability Assessment to EHDC see the whole document here https://bit.ly/CPRERedlist. Their view is that Chawton Park Farm is not suitable for development. Here is an extract from that document.
"EHDC Evidence
* Landscape value assessed by Terra Firma on behalf of EHDC as Beyond the Ordinary and of Medium/High landscape value (see EHDC Landscape Value Statements: Large Development Sites dated July 2020)
* Assessment by Terra Firma on behalf of EHDC concluding on landscape grounds that the Site is within Local Area (2b.6) of medium/low capacity to accommodate change and only able to accommodate new housing in limited situations (see EHDC Landscape Capacity Study dated September 2018)
* Landscape value assessed by RPS Watson on behalf of EHDC as within an Area of Special Landscape Quality (ASLQ) (see Landscape Assessment of East Hampshire, Final Report, dated December 1994)
