Thank you to the Alton Herald for airing our concern that people may think that Chawton Park Farm is safe from development: NO it isn't. The 2nd part of the EHDC Local Plan Consultation (Reg 18) will be next September (2023) it will be about SITES. We must make sure Chawton Park Farm is NOT in it.
Here is a transcript of the article.
Farm ‘not safe’ - Calls to keep up Chawton Park Farm pressure
The Alton Society and the Say No to Chawton Park Farm campaign
fear people are assuming the farm is safe from development.
After protests last year, East Hampshire District Council decided not to designate Chawton Park Farm as its preferred site for 1,200 houses
in its new Local Plan. But on Monday the council launched a repeat of an eight-week public consultation on the plan.
A society spokesperson said: “The Alton Society is concerned that this
process is not widely known about, not seen as an important step in
plan-making, and that people think large areas of rural or agricultural
importance previously named as possible sites are no longer on the
radar, notably Chawton Park Farm.
“This is a re-run of the Regulation 18 consultation that was done in
2018, except that this time it’s split into two. This first part is entitled
East Hampshire Local Plan 2021-2040 Issues and Priorities, and the second, which will cover sites, will be next September. The final consultation, Regulation 19, will be in spring 2024.
“We understand EHDC is repeating the original consultation because
of changing housing numbers and controversy over site selection
and infrastructure, as well as the changing political and environmental
agenda.”
There are drop-in events at Alton Assembly Rooms on December 7 and
the Forest Community Centre in Bordon on December 8, from 3.30pm to
6.30pm. The online consultation is at https://ehdclocalplan.commonplace.is
With best wishes to you all from the Say No Campaign
