The Age newspaper in Melbourne has exposed the emergence of a deeply concerning gun culture. Since John Howard delivered the National Firearms Agreement in 1996, changes in gun technology and incremental changes made by various State governments in response to a powerful gun lobby have undermined our strong laws. It has been 20 years since the massacre of 35 people at Port Arthur in Tasmania but we should not be complacent about the danger of guns in our community.
