The issue

On 13 December 17-year-old Jack Beasley was tragically murdered in the middle of Surfers Paradise.

It was a senseless, random act of youth violence which devastated his mum and dad Brett and Belinda and his brother and best mate Mitch. The incident traumatised Jack’s friends and had a profound impact on our community.

The young offender who started the attack which led to Jack being stabbed to death pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced to 7 years in jail.

On 18 December 2023 Brett and Belinda were told the young offender had applied for parole.

Corrective Services wrote to them saying they had 21 days to make a submission with their concerns about the release of this prisoner into the community.

Just four days later, they received a phone call to say the decision had already been made and the prisoner would be released in mid-January after serving barely half of his sentence.

This is heartbreaking news for a family who have already lost so much. We urge the Parole Board Queensland to overturn this decision.

We call on the Queensland Government to do all they can to make sure this youth criminal sees consequences for their actions.
