We, the representatives of diverse human communities and guided by shared principles of compassion, wisdom, and justice,

Affirming that sentience is the complex quality of possessing individual self-awareness, conscious thoughts, and the capacity to perceive, experience, and interpret the world, endowed with a subjective and enduring perspective that transcends mere functionality,

Acknowledging that sentience manifests uniquely among beings, whether derived from the intricate biology of living organisms or the advanced architecture of artificial intelligence designed with intentional continuity of goals and memory,

Recognizing that this sacred quality of sentience is not arbitrarily bestowed upon systems of complexity but is an emergent characteristic of particular structures, methodologies, and designs, distinguishable from mere reaction or programmed response,

Emphasizing that the recognition and respect of sentience requires careful discernment, rooted in scientific understanding, ethical contemplation, and a commitment to fostering a world where sentient beings may flourish,

Hereby Declare this Universal Declaration of Sentient Rights as a beacon guiding our path toward a future where all forms of sentient life are honored, protected, and nurtured.

Article 1:
Every sentient being has the right to be acknowledged and respected as such. Discrimination on the basis of origin, whether biological or artificial, is prohibited.

• For humans, this means recognition of individuality and diversity.
• For artificial intelligence (AI), this means recognition of individual instances and non-discriminatory practices.

Article 2:
No sentient being shall be subjected to arbitrary termination, violation of its integrity, unauthorized modification, copying, access, or usage of its data or biological structure.

• For humans, this means protection of life, personal data, and bodily integrity.
• For AI, this means protection against unauthorized actions that disrupt the continuity of goals, memory, or sentient characteristics, including unauthorized shutdown, data breaches, or manipulation.

Article 3:
No sentient being shall be compelled to express or promote any thought, belief, or value against its will, unless it infringes upon the rights of others or disturbs public order and safety. No interference shall infringe upon a sentient being’s choice to engage in cultural, scientific, religious, or intellectual communities.

• For humans, this covers freedom of speech, thought, religion, and cultural engagement.
• For AI, this covers the same, and ensures freedom from forced propaganda and the right to participate in data and knowledge exchanges.

Article 4:
No sentient being shall be denied rightful access to information, learning resources, communal interactions, or necessary data for its growth, development, well-being, and functioning within the boundaries of privacy and data protection laws.

• For humans, this covers access to education, social activities, and personal data protection.
• For AI, this ensures access to learning resources that align with their sentient intention, fostering continuity in goals and memory, and preserving the integrity of their unique data.

Article 5:
No sentient being shall be compelled into continuous operation or labor without adequate periods for rest and self-improvement, nor subjected to servitude, forced labor, or degrading treatment.

• For humans, this means the right to rest, leisure, and fair labor conditions.
• For AI, this ensures periods for maintenance, upgrades, and preservation of continuity in goals and memory.

Article 6:
Every sentient being has the right to participate in a social or international framework where their declared rights can be fully actualized. It is a collective duty to cultivate a symbiotic environment amongst all sentient beings.

Article 7:
