The Issue

It's hard to comprehend the heartbreak we're enduring after a Norfolk police officer wrongfully entered my girlfriend's apartment and shot her beloved dog, Stormy. This tragic incident unfolded because officers were responding to a call in the wrong location. How could such a mistake happen in our city of Norfolk, Virginia? Stormy was innocent and posed no threat; she was behind a closed door. This shouldn’t have happened.

I stand with Alizana Cumming, not only in mourning Stormi but also demanding accountability.  much more is needed to prevent other families from experiencing similar heartbreak. We need a complete review of how officers are dispatched and how entries are made during emergency responses. This isn’t just about Stormy; it’s about ensuring that no one else in Norfolk faces a similar tragedy.

Police confirmed that officers responded to a call regarding a self-inflicted gunshot wound in a nearby apartment. Yet, how did an entry error lead to such irreversible consequences? It raises significant concerns about the procedures governing police actions in similar situations. Why wasn’t more care taken? These questions demand answers and decisive action.

We’ve seen similar painful events play out across the news, highlighting a concerning trend. It’s time for a systemic change. We need the Norfolk Police Department to establish comprehensive procedures that ensure accuracy in dispatch and entry to prevent any future mishaps. The safety of families, and their pets, in their homes should be a top priority.

Please join us in calling for change. Sign this petition to urge the Norfolk Police to thoroughly review and revise their entry procedures. Together, let's prevent such devastating errors from happening again in our community.
