As I write this update I am pleased to report that we almost have 344 signatures supporting the cause to have Fire Patrolman Keith Roma's name added to the official casualty count of FDNY firefighters lost in the World Trade Center attacks of September 11, 2001.
344 is a milestone number for this campaign because when the powers-that-be finally agree to add Keith Roma's name to the official 9/11 casualty count it will change from 343, which has been the official number for 15 years, to the correct and proper number of 344.
We're not asking much. Just one little number. But that number represents so much to everyone who knew and loved Keith Roma.
Many of those who have signed this petition are firefighters and loved ones of firefighters. Some have even noted that they worked with Keith. Even Keith's sister, Maureen Roma, has signed this petition. The signatures are coming from all over the country and even from other parts of the world.
The truth is that all of the men and women who have dedicated their lives to the service of others in the various professions often categorized as "first responders" are heroes. From the small towns to the big cities, from the small house fires to the attacks on the World Trade Center, Fire Fighters, Fire Patrolmen, Emergency Services, Paramedics, Law Enforcement, and others ALL put their lives on the line so that the rest of us will be protected.
As we stand and salute all of you for your dedication we want you to know that, whether we can get this number changed or not, you are all heroes and we thank you for the job you have chosen to do.
We truly believe in this campaign and truly believe that changing the number of casualties from 343 to 344 in all the documentation and all memorial ceremonies is the right thing to do.
Thank you all for your support and for sharing this petition with as many people as you can.
