All veterans are urged to sign this petition in protest of President Donald Trump’s plan to build a massive triumphal arch featuring a golden-winged figure, eagles, lions, and the words “One Nation Under God” in the sacred space between the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery, within the traffic circle connecting Washington to northern Virginia.

Public reporting and official descriptions indicate the proposed structure would stand about 250 feet tall, dwarfing the Lincoln Memorial, which stands 99 feet tall. This proposal is not only unconscionable, but a blatant act of disrespect to the nearly 430,000 service members, veterans, and eligible dependents laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery.

Arlington National Cemetery is hallowed ground. It is a place of sacrifice, remembrance, and national honor for service members from every major American war and for eligible family members who rest beside them.

The undersigned believe no oversized political monument should be imposed at the doorstep of one of the most sacred military burial sites in the United States. This space should be preserved with dignity, humility, and respect.

Demands
The undersigned call on federal officials to:

-Immediately stop the proposed arch project.
-Protect the historic and memorial integrity of the corridor between the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery.
-Respect the memory of those buried at Arlington and the service of all veterans, service members, and military families.
-Ensure that veterans and the public are heard before any such project moves forward.
