Dear right to repair advocate,
We need your help to pass Bill C-244. In just a few clicks, please send a letter to Senators today!
Since our last communication, and thanks to your support, we have reached another important milestone in the fight for the right to repair for Canada’s vehicle owners and the auto care industry.
A federal private members’ bill introduced by MP Wilson Miao is an essential first step for the right to repair for vehicles.
Bill C-244, An Act to amend the Copyright Act (diagnosis, maintenance and repair) creates an exemption to copyright and digital locks, when they are circumvented for the purpose of the diagnosis, maintenance or repair of smart devices. The Bill also requires manufacturers to share relevant repair information, diagnostic tools, and supply service parts.
Bill C-244 has now been officially referred to the Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Commerce and the Economy. The Senate study is the last hurdle to clear in order to make this bill law. Now, more than ever, as the committee members prepare to undertake their review of the bill, we need your help to ensure this is a priority and passed as soon as possible.
We urge you to take just a few minutes to send a letter now through our pre-populated form to urge its swift passing.
Once again, thank you for standing up for Canada’s vehicle owners and the auto care industry in the fight for right to repair legislation. Consumers deserve the right to repair their vehicles at the auto shop of their choice!
