Thanks to all the supporters of AB 2775 (Kalra), a bill requiring that ingredients be listed on the labels of professional cosmetics.
AB 2775 passed both the California Senate and Assembly with almost unanimous bipartisan support. AB 2775 is now on Governor Brown’s desk, awaiting his signature. We need to make sure he signs it!
Why we need AB 2775:
On a daily basis, for long hours, nail and hair salon professionals handle solvents, glues, polishes, straighteners, and other beauty care products containing a multitude of chemicals known or suspected to cause cancer, allergies, respiratory, neurological and reproductive harm. Salon workers absorb chemicals through their skin and breathe them as fumes build up in the air of the salon over the course of the workday. Research shows that these exposures put salon workers at greater risk for serious health problems.
Currently, manufacturers do not have to list the ingredients on the labels of professional cosmetics, creating a significant gap in salon workers’ and owners’ right-to-know what they’re being exposed to every day at work.
AB 2775 will make sure salon workers and owners have the information they need to protect their health and the health of their customers.
