Shut down unconstitutional AI surveillance cameras in Firestone, CO

Shut down unconstitutional AI surveillance cameras in Firestone, CO

The Issue

The widespread use of AI surveillance cameras, specifically Automated License Plate Readers (ALPRs), in Firestone, CO, is a direct violation of my constitutional rights, as well as the rights of every resident in this community. These warrantless surveillance systems, installed by a company called Flock, are an intrusive overreach by federal, state, and local governments.

AI-driven surveillance technologies are increasingly being utilized without the consent or knowledge of the citizens they monitor, leading to an erosion of personal freedom and privacy. According to a report by the Electronic Frontier Foundation, ALPRs can track millions of vehicles, storing data that can reveal private details about a person's life, such as their daily routines, where they work, live, and visit, without any form of oversight or accountability.

The use of these technologies without warrants contradicts the Fourth Amendment of the United States Constitution, which guards against unreasonable searches and seizures. Yet, here in Firestone, these cameras are actively capturing and storing data without any legal justification, potentially leading to misuse and abuse of the collected data.

Moreover, the reliability of AI surveillance technology is frequently questioned as studies have shown high error rates, with false positives being a common issue – meaning innocent individuals might be wrongly scrutinized or implicated. The consequences of such errors can lead to wrongful accusations, privacy violations, and further distrust in public safety measures.

Our community is not opposed to thoughtful and responsible use of technology for public safety. However, it must be implemented with proper checks and balances, transparency, and above all, respect for constitutional rights. We are calling for the immediate removal and shutdown of these ALPR systems by Flock in Firestone, CO to protect our rights and privacy.

Join us in this fight to reclaim our civil liberties. Sign this petition to demand the City of Firestone to take action against warrantless AI surveillance and uphold our constitutional rights.
