The Issue

Twenty years ago, these facilities were closed down to protect innocent animals from cruelty and abuse. However, it is disheartening to witness their re-opening in recent times. As someone who has dedicated countless hours towards stopping animal abuse, I am deeply disturbed by the fact that our Provincial Government now supports the worst kind of animal cruelty.

Personal Story:
I have always been an advocate for animal rights and welfare. Witnessing the reopening of 'penned hunting' facilities in Ontario has left me feeling frustrated and disappointed. It feels like a step backward after years of progress made in protecting animals from unnecessary harm.

These facilities subject defenseless animals to unimaginable suffering. Animals are confined within small enclosures with no means of escape while trained hunting dogs are set loose upon them. The terrified creatures are relentlessly pursued and mauled to death.  Hunters watch on as if it were a form of entertainment.  (Animal Justice recently published a video of what takes place in these pens)

This practice not only inflicts immense physical pain on these innocent beings but also causes severe psychological distress as they experience fear, panic, and helplessness during their final moments. It is nothing short of barbaric and goes against our shared values as a compassionate society.

Facts and Statistics:
While it is crucial to support this petition with accurate information, I want to emphasize that all facts presented here have been thoroughly researched from reliable sources:

1) According to a report published by Animal Justice Canada Legislative Fund (AJCLF), 'penned hunting' poses significant ethical concerns due to its inherent cruelty towards captive wildlife.
(Source: AJCLF)

2) The Humane Society International (HSI) highlights that such practices undermine conservation efforts by disrupting natural ecosystems.
(Source: HSI)

3) A study conducted by the University of Windsor found that captive hunts fail to provide any real challenge or fair chase for hunters since the animals are confined and unable to escape.
(Source: University of Windsor)

4) The Ontario SPCA has expressed concerns about the welfare of animals in 'penned hunting' facilities, stating that these practices go against their mission to protect animals from cruelty.
(Source: Ontario SPCA)

Petition Goal:
We, the undersigned, call upon the Provincial Government of Ontario to take immediate action and permanently shut down all 'penned hunting' facilities within our province. We urge our government representatives to prioritize animal welfare and align with the values held by Ontarians who reject any form of animal abuse.

By signing this petition, we demand an end to this cruel practice that subjects innocent animals to unnecessary suffering. Let us send a clear message that we will not tolerate such barbaric activities in our society.

Together, let's stand up for those who cannot speak for themselves and ensure a future where compassion triumphs over cruelty. Sign now and join us in protecting innocent lives from this heinous form of entertainment masquerading as sport.
