Shut Down Paw Sweet Paw: Justice for BuBu and All Victims of Negligence

The Issue

I’m writing this with a broken heart, but with a clear purpose. On October 9, 2024, my family and I had to travel to Hawaii, where our business is based and where we still call our first home. That evening at 6:50 PM, we left our beloved dog, BuBu, at Paw Sweet Paw, a pet daycare in Spectrum, Irvine. BuBu was more than a pet. She was our baby — an 11-year-old, 8-pound Pomeranian who had been with us through every season of life. But the very next morning, on October 10, she was left unsupervised with a nearly 40-pound husky mix. She was violently attacked inside the facility. Her injuries were horrific: seven broken ribs, a crushed spinal cord, punctured lungs, and massive internal bleeding. On October 11, at 6:44 PM, BuBu passed away at the emergency hospital. The doctor said the damages on her little body was too much for her endure. Afterwards we learned this facility has a pattern of negligence. Another dog had previously died under their care according to the official policy report. Even more, formal employees and anonymous sources reported repeated cases of injuries, neglect, and unsafe practices. Instead of showing remorse, the facility: • Blamed BuBu for what happened • Lied to the police, falsely claiming we insisted she play with other dogs • Delayed releasing the CCTV footage — even to authorities • Posted hurtful comments online, adding to our grief On October 10, we received a vague call saying BuBu was injured — with no urgency or explanation. I changed my flight immediately and rushed back from Hawaii. While heading to the airport, I was told she was being transferred to RISE Pet Health. I called and texted repeatedly, begging for answers and CCTV footage. The manager, Dani, said he would send it but never did. Not knowing how bad things were, we paid $10,000 upfront to authorize life-saving treatment. I didn’t learn the truth until I spoke to the ER doctor from the plane — BuBu’s condition was critical. I landed at LAX and rushed straight to the hospital. She was still alive — waiting for me. Hooked to oxygen and machines, she looked into my eyes. She was fighting. But her little body couldn’t hold on any longer. This is no longer just about BuBu. It’s about holding businesses accountable. It’s about protecting other families and their fur babies from suffering this same pain. It’s about a broken system that allows negligent pet facilities to keep operating — even after multiple tragedies. We’re asking the City of Irvine to: • Revoke Paw Sweet Paw’s business license immediately • Fully investigate their operations • Enforce stricter safety and supervision standards across all pet care centers Please sign and share our petition. Help us make sure no other animal suffers like BuBu did. Your voice can help bring real change. We know that this wouldn’t matter for bubu now as she’s happy and healthy in haven but this matters for us and other furry families. From the bottom of my heart — thank you. With love and hope, Jeong Fong
