Yimkhiung Tribe is a conglomeration of 6 dialect speaking group of People inhabiting mostly in the districts of Tuensang and Kiphire of Nagaland State. Many Yimkhiung villages also falls under Myanmar. Yimkhiung Tribe have also vigorously  contributed for the birth of Nagaland State in the year 1963. The First Nagaland Police force was also formed under the patriotism of Yimkhiung Naga. In addition, First Indo-Naga war was also fought and blood-sheeded under Yimkhiung Soil of Huker Village under Chessore Sub-Division of Tuensang District on 24th March 1955 under the leadership of Angh P. Hopong Yimkhiungrü, M.Lakhum War Leader and Brig. Gen. Thsamphu along with hundreds of young and determined warriors under the banner of Naga National  Council (NNC). Yimkhiung Tribe has numerous untapped natural resources and a huge revenue generation aspects viz Salomi Cave, Mimi Cave, Fakim Wildlife Sanctuary besides huge mineral deposites under Pungro Area to boost the State's  revenue if explored. The highest revenue generating Plant- Likimro Hydro Electric Power (LHEP) Plant is also located under Pungro Area (Moya Village) of Yimkhiung Tribe. In addition, the highest peak in Nagaland i.e Mt.  Saramati standing at an altitude of 3480 mts also falls  under Yimkhiung Jurisdiction of Thanamir Village under Pungro Sub-Division of Kiphire District of Nagaland State. Since 2003, as aspired by the Yimkhiung Tribe, the people have been demanding for a separate District of its own but the State Government is yet to fulfill the long cherished dream of the Yimkhiung Naga Tribe to live under one District Headquarter by incorporating all the Yimkhiung villages/areas of Shamator ADC Headquarter, Pungro ADC Headquarter, Chessore SDO (Civil) Headquarter, Mango EAC Headquarter, Tsurungto EAC Headquarter, Khongsa EAC Headquarter and Thsotokur EAC Headquarter . The State Government had already assured on 3rd October 2021 and accordingly Declared Shamator as a New  District in Principle during the recent Cabinet Meeting held on 18th December 2021. But the same has not been notified in written till date. Therefore, the Yimkhiung people are holding peaceful and democratic protest against the State Government from 23rd December 2021 to till date demanding the State Government to immediately declare Shamator as a full-fledged District as assured by the Government. Phase wise Agitation to be intensified till Demand for Shamator District is properly notified.
