Show our park some love!

The Issue

We are residents living "next door" to the corner of Soudan and Redpath Avenues, where a park was "dedicated" to the neighbourhood following the approval of the rental building recently completed at 71 Redpath Avenue.

Councillor Matlow has done an exceptional job adding an extensive “greenway” along the north side of Soudan Avenue that will soon stretch from Yonge Street to Mount Pleasant Avenue. We were told the City would be doing “above base” park improvements to the Redpath & Soudan green space. Though small, this park is an important gateway and should be part of a well thought-out transition from the low rise neighbourhood to the south to the high rise apartment area.

Other parks planned in the City of Toronto engage local residents in a process to create these special green spaces. Not this time! To date, the parkette sits neglected and seemingly unloved, with only oversized garbage cans and an old bench on the site, used mainly as a dog relief area. We want - and deserve - a beautiful parkette to enhance our neighbourhood.

We are calling on the City to start a process NOW: consult with local residents, the residents' association, Councillor's office, and the Parks department to design and deliver a parkette we can be proud of and make use of in our neighbourhood.
