The equivalent of around half the school agrees: The mask dress code needs to be changed!
Along with this news, a couple other points have come up, that I feel should be shared with you.
If masks all look the same, how will people tell them apart? Now this may not seem like a big issue with masks on people’s faces, but let’s say someone left their mask on a table for lunch, but forgot which one- with all matching masks, there is an increased risk of someone mixing up their masks with another’s.
Another issue that came up is the struggle of finding a mask with a good fit. Although the school is providing students with two masks each (not enough, as we previously addressed) what will they do if the masks don’t fit? People have a wide variety of face shapes and sizes, and by limiting our mask options, along with the strain of supply and demand we also have to account for how well masks fit. By restricting some masks based on color, it increases the likelihood of students wearing ill-fitting masks. Masks which put our student body at risk.
And a letter to those who think this is just a small inconvenience: Well, yes, perhaps it is to you. However, there is no real reason for this rule. If the school makes unjust rules simply for their own convenience and receives no opposition, what will stop them from furthering the “inconvenience”? This is only the beginning. If we don’t do something, if we don’t prove we aren’t going to stand for such treatments, it will only get worse.
School is starting soon- and if we want our school experience to be a safe and fair one- this isn’t the time to give up. Although our impact alone may be small, if we work together we CAN and WILL incite change. Don’t give up, my friends!
