Shireoaks and Rhodesia Campaign Against Plastic Pyrolysis

Shireoaks and Rhodesia Campaign Against Plastic Pyrolysis
The Issue
There is a vast amount of research that has been published about the harmful impact Plastic Pyrolysis. This process essentially uses gasses to heat platic waste to temperatures as high as 2,800° Fahrenheit. With limited oxygen and high heat, these facilities generate synthetic gases and oils, along with ash, char, and air pollution. They are dangerous to our health and to our environment.
Contrary to claims made by gasification and pyrolysis supporters, these are not “clean” technologies. The air emissions from these facilities are similar to conventional trash incinerators. They spew a number of cancer-causing compounds described as the most toxic chemicals known to humankind. Moreover, the ash “byproduct” of these processes is contaminated with dioxins, mercury, and other heavy metals, all of which leaches into our groundwater, rivers, and lakes.
There is only one other Pyrolysis site in the UK, which is situated in Sunderland. This is not yet in operation. The sites that have been established in other Countires have all proven to be harmful and unsuccessful, with one in Denmark exploding several times.
Our communities in Rhodesia and Shireoaks, near Worksop, have recieved notice that there is a proposed Pyrolysis Plant that is being planned to be situated directly in the vicinity of residential and wildlife rich areas
After undertaking initial consultation with residents from both Rhodesia and Shireoaks, it is evident that this is a development that residents have strong concerns about and there is clear support in opposition to this planning proposal progressing forwards.
We are determined to lead a campaign to object against this proposal and would like to request your support.
