Anti STR laws crush communities and damage property values. Towns are FIGHTING BACK! Threatening JAIL TIME if we rent our homes? Are you kidding me?
Did you know STRs have no official complaints? Not one! Only elitist cranks calling the Town Board to complain that they don't like STRs and want to know who is parked next to their property, etc...There are no noise, nuisance, or garbage complaints - zero. Why? Shelter Islanders are responsible, and the majority of guests are small families here to relax, swim, nap, and bbq - not party like Montauk.

Practice Civil Disobedience - this law is wholly wrong - it violates your right to privacy, your property rights, and it discriminates against working families.
Gym Colligan is a complete hypocrite - he himself has rented on Shelter Island for one week in the past. Al Dickson's family owned a home in the Heights and rented it every summer for over 25 years. Paul Shepherd has had rental properties for over 30 years. Amber B. Williams had rental properties adjacent to her previous home on Baldwin Road for many years. Previous Councilperson Mary Dudley (she started this anti- property rights crusade with Gym Colligan in 2016) booked short term rentals for her wedding guests in September, 2016...then proceeded to legislate against Shelter Islanders. Pure hypocrisy from the Town Board, who we pay with our taxes to represent us - outrageous!
Shelter Island has rented for the summer season since the 1870's. It's a time honored tradition here. Gym Colligan and Paul Shepherd - are you listening? Prepare to be VOTED OUT OF OFFICE IN NOVEMBER! IF YOU DON'T REPRESENT ALL OF SHELTER ISLAND, YOU ARE UNFIT TO GOVERN!
