The Detroit Lions Franchise Need to Reimburse Calvin Johnson the 1.5 Million He is Owed
The Issue
Calvin Johnson, an amazing human being and one of the greatest wide receivers of all time. Detroit Lions fans know Calvin as "Megatron", but Calvin is is much more than just a football player. Calvin Johnson is a humble human being who was raised by two great parents, who held Calvin to very high standards. Calvin Johnson's football IQ is evident in his highlights, but when it comes to off the field knowledge, Calvin is just as smart. Calvin Johnson knows the Detroit Lions franchise wronged him by making him pay back $1.5 million of his signing bonus after he decided to retire early. This is very uncommon thing to do, especially with a franchise player of Calvins caliber. When Andrew Luck decided to hang up the cleats early because of the injuries he suffered, the Colts let him keep all of it. Calvin, much like Andrew Luck, suffered a plethora of injuries over his tenure with the Lions. Many of those injuries (including concussions) Calvin played through. As Lions fans it's our job to hold our franchise accountable for these stupid mistakes they have made. $1.5 million is pocket change to the Fords billionaire status. It may not seem like a lot of money, but that's not the point, Calvin earned every penny of that contract and he deserves every bit of that money and more. If we want to move forward as a franchise we must make amends with one of the best players to ever wear the Honolulu blue. Please share this and tag the Lions franchise and everyone associated with them so we can move forward as a team, as a franchise, and more importantly as human beings.
