Dear Supporters,
Last year I wrote to you with happy news of victory keeping space for walking and cycling on Pinstone Street. This petition played an important role in convincing councillors to stick to changes made in the centre at a committee meeting in November 2021.
I heard yesterday that there had been a signifcant council meeting, this time about the impending Clean Air Zone that will be introduced in the New Year. The bus gate on Arundel Gate was discussed. I gather there are some difficulties with this, but I don't know what. I do know one solution to the problem it apparently presents involves.... putting buses back on Pinstone Street!
If this decision is made by the council, active travel AND other large capital improvement projects will likely NOT progress. It turns out this one stretch of highway has a major role in achieving not just clean air & safe space to walk and cycle not just in the centre, but across the city.
I am working with local councillors to see how solutions can be found and continuing to make the case for active travel benefits for all.
