Shawnee Mission School District has made the decision to hire Paul Colwell, who has many complaints of racism, sexism, and bullying from students and staff at Shawnee Mission Horizons High School, the district's alternative school. Our children and their teachers deserve to feel safe at school/work. Many students and parents have expressed their frustration about this decision, but the district is remaining silent. A quote from the Kansas City Star 

"In emails obtained by The Star and in interviews, 15 current and former employees and students accuse Colwell of sexual harassment and more. They say he bullied and singled out certain students, especially students of color, and made sexist and racist remarks about them. They say he mistreated transgender students and is the reason one became suicidal. They say he was more of a dictator than a principal, intimidating staff, driving many to seek transfers." 

SMSD needs to do better by their students and staff.  SM West is the most diverse school in the district. There is no room for this behavior in education, and especially in schools who celebrate diversity. We are absolutely demanding this man not be invited into our schools.
