Representing over 3000 alumni and others associated with the University, the facebook community Women of Sewanee strongly condemns the horrifying acts of racism, vandalism, and intimidation focused at Vice Chancellor Brigety, his family, and his home. These actions are hate crimes. We call for swift accountability for those responsible. On the mountain and beyond the gates, we are a larger community focused on the central ideas embodied by our motto Ecce Quam Bonum. We invite and encourage Sewanee students and alumnae to engage in difficult conversations and strive to better represent our alma mater. We must hold ourselves and the Sewanee community to the highest standard and call out the actions we find unacceptable and antithetical to those ideals.
