It's time to transition to a cleaner, more sustainable mode of transportation. New Jersey, as part of its efforts to protect our environment and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, must take a lead role in promoting electric vehicles (EVs). This can be achieved through clear policy initiatives, deadlines, and widespread public support.

In 2018, transportation accounted for 42% of New Jersey's total greenhouse gas emissions. However, the adoption of EVs can significantly reduce this figure. According to the 2020 “Electric Vehicle Market Report,” EVs emit up to 43% fewer greenhouse gases than conventional petroleum-fueled vehicles, even when factoring in electricity generation (US Department of Energy, 2020).

Stronger public policy can influence a quicker shift to EVs. New Jersey has made some progress in this area—with the enactment of the Electric Vehicle Law in 2020, providing rebates for EV buyers—but further actions are needed.

Therefore, to expedite the transition to electric transportation in New Jersey, we ask for the introduction of stricter deadlines for electric vehicle implementation. This should be combined with educational programs to earn public support and enable New Jersey citizens to make informed choices about EVs.
